Limb Salvage

Limb salvage surgery is intended to save a person's leg or arm resulting from an accident, infection or a tumor that needs removal. Often amputation is the only option to save a person's life, but in some cases limb salvage can be an alternative to amputation. Only a physician can make this difficult decision after a thorough individual patient evaluation.

Fracture Care Center patients that have been treated with limb salvage, or limb sparing surgery, experience a high level of success. Limb salvage often involves multiple surgeries and requires special procedures including bone and skin grafts, bone resection, reconstructive and plastic surgeries.

Dr. Cole's approach to near amputation injuries allows patients to keep their extremities and continue to lead productive and functional lives. Patients recover from these severe injuries with minimal restrictions considering the magnitude of their injuries. Each patient's support system, of family and friends, is often as important as the surgery in allowing the patient to return to having a productive life.

The Fracture Care Center offers hope in preventing a physical disability or deformity with limb salvage or limb sparing surgery. Call us at (407) 895-8890 or contact us online to learn how this progressive alternative to amputation may help you.
